X-MEN

Released: July 14, 2000

Bryan Singer, director of "The Usual Suspects", brings Marvel Comics characters The X-men to life in this effects driven summer blockbuster. Having made over $57 million over the opening weekend it has gauranteed a franchise opportunity for distributor 20th Century Fox. Starring Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Famke Janssen, Rebecca Romijn-Stamos and Anna Paquin, this is a big budget action movie minus the action. Singer gives it his all to introduce the characters and throw in a couple fight scenes to make it interesting for non-fans. Perhaps the sequel will bear more fruit in the action area but otherwise we are given a fine look inside the comic book characters. Not a super great movie but more entertaining and worthy of your money than stuff like "Big Momma's House", which is what passes as comedy these days and out sells the new Farrelly brothers movie...
