RED PLANET

Released: November 10, 2000

Standard scientists-must-overcome-odds-in-finite-time type drama. Low on action, this picture offers up more brain food than explosions (though there are a few good ones). Val Kilmer, Tom Sizemore and Terrance Stamp star along with the chick from "The Matrix", Carrie Anne Moss. There is a nicely executed Martian set that, while looking too much like Nevada at times, gives you the lonely yearnings for life back on the home planet. Nothing really happens during this movie however. Questions are answered then forgotten. Why is there no plant life but an abundance of air on Mars? Who knows. If the brain food idea was what the producers were after then it still remains unclear exactly what they were trying to say.
